Setting up your Tersus Base

  • Place your GPS antenna on a known/surveyed point (preferred, but not absolutely necessary) or in an open area for easy GPS broadcasting.
  • Connect the antenna to the Base via the antenna cable.
  • Plug the USB to port COM1 and radio to port COM2

  • Connect the USB to the computer.
    • The four LEDs should glow red.

  • Open TersusGNSS Center (download here: https://www.tersus-gnss.com/pages/document-software) and select or enter the assigned COM port number of the USB inserted.
  • If this is first time set up enter the following in the command line:
    • Lat and Long are measured in decimal degrees. Alt is measured in meters above the ellipsoid (WGS84). For example, “FIX POSITION 34.459884 -86.824432 180.273”. Do not forget to add in the rod and antenna phase center height.
   UNLOGALL
   FIX POSITION LAT LONG ALT
   UNDULATION USER 0.0
   ECUTOFF BD2 15.0
   ECUTOFF GPS 15.0
   ECUTOFF GLONASS 15.0
   INTERFACEMODE COM2 AUTOMATIC AUTOMATIC ON
   LOG COM2 RTCM1074 ONTIME 1
   LOG COM2 RTCM1084 ONTIME 1
   LOG COM2 RTCM1124 ONTIME 1
   LOG COM2 RTCM1005 ONTIME 10
   SAVECONFIG

Setting up on a known point

  • All that needs to be changed from initial set up is FIX position:
   FIX POSITION [LAT] [LONG] [ALT]
   SAVECONFIG

Setting up on an unknown point

   FIX NONE
   LOG GPGGA ontime 1
  • Navigate to Tools → Pos Averaging
  • Select “100” from Min Sampler Number and push “Start” at the bottom left of the window.
  • After approximately 100 seconds a position will appear in the output dialog. Select “Fix Position” next to this line.

  • Close this window and enter into the text console:
   unlog gpgga
   saveconfig

  • The unit can be configured before operation in office, or in the field. But once configured, it only needs to be powered via 5V USB cable on the microUSB port (i.e. it does not require connection to a computer to operate).
